Journalists who come too close to oil spill clean-up efforts without permission could find themselves facing a $40,000 fine and even one to five years in prison under a new rule instituted by the Coast Guard in early June. (BP cam feed from WKRG TV Mobile, Ala. - Pennsacola, Fla.)

Deepwater Horizon Failure Creates Eco Disaster

On April 20, 2010: the DeepHorizon oil rig operated by British Petroleum (BP) encountered failures, which are still under investigation, resulting in fire, explosion and the final sinking of the rig. Eleven platform rig workers were killed and 17 workers were injured.

The pipeline itself failed and has been gushing millions of barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico since the destruction of the Deepwater Hoizon endangering the eco system and cultural life of the region.
